I was beyond happy when I opened up this set. I do bone carving and this set gives me so much versatility. What is awesome is that the flex shaft is included. Not to mention the many different bits and other bells and whistles. The photos included are just a rough sample of what I did just in one sitting with this set (coyote and raccoon skulls). I apologize for the bad lighting. I need to clean up a lot of the lines and do some sanding to finish, but I am so happy with this product. I would recommend it for just about any and all projects. Household or otherwise. Well worth the money, even at twice the price.I know that we will be using it to help our son with box wood derbies. Also in small model designs. This kit really has everything you could ever need. Well, except for the stand to hang it from if using the flex shaft. Otherwise this is a PERFECT kit.If you are looking for that all purpose tool, this is it.I would also recommend that if you are going to be doing engraving, etching, or carving of any fashion that you invest in a good respirator, only because dust (wood, glass, bone, metal) is not good to breathe in. Just a side note for any one who is a crafter like myself.Thank you Dremel for an amazing kit and amazing products! You have a customer for life!

After reading and debating and reading and debating, I finally took the leap and purchased the kit. It might be a little early on my review, but so far I have already saved so much money...I have to say don't wait. If you're debating getting one...then you need it.I provided a picture of project #1 Front door handles (a work in progress.) I have priced comparable handles on-line and in the stores, they cost $800.00 on average. I also priced the Dremel tool kit $131 and change. I WIN. Not only am I already ahead financially, I still have the kit and more projects in the making. PLUS I get to make my wife come out so I can say "see what I did." When she said WOW! She really meant it...Priceless. I know I pay more attention to your reviews then to the product hype. I don't click helped or didn't help, so this is my way of paying forward and saying thanks to all the reviewers. Hope this helps someone.

Dremel Tools don't need any more praise from me than it already has. The product literally speaks for itself with the tremendous build quality and ability to handle any tasks!I was primarily interested in cutting and buffing/sanding aluminum and metals in and around my car. I also want to tackle the baseboards in my home this summer. I also wanted the extension snake ($25 value) to allow me to do fine detailing work without the vibration of the 4000 in my hand. The extension snake thing alone makes this worth it since you do not have to buy a smaller lower powered dremel for fine detailing work. On the 4000 with the snake attached and speed set to low you can tackle small projects carefully and quickly. This kit has all that and more for just under $100.

Dremel works well but I was disappointed to find that some of the attachments included couldn't be used because I didn't have the right size chuck nut. Apparently you have to buy the different size chucks separately in order to use all attachments included. Seems like a scam to me that they give you attachments that you have to spend more money on in order to use.
January 6, 2015
I dont understand how you could purchase a kit and not be able to use any of the attachments that come with the kit... all the attachments are too large to fit the collet given to you... so now i have to go spend more money on a chuck nut. Other than that, it's a decent kit

I bought the Dremel 3000-1/24 ... to grind down my dogs' nails and it works for us. I'm sorry this review is not helpful to more people, but wanted to throw in my two cents for Dremelling dog nails, because others reviews were important to me when I was shopping. This works well because of the variable speed. I hate clipping dog nails - everyone is stressed: humans and dogs! We had a battery operated Dremel before, but could never get through 2 dogs' feet before the battery ran out. In addition, it wasn't powerful enough to grind the nails without a lot of vibrations - again, stress for everyone. When we use this, the dog's relax, so the humans relax too. I am sure we will use this Dremel and accessories for more things in the future. (We have one that works great that's so old it's in its original metal box. But for dog nails, we need that slow speed on a powerful Dremel.)

I own each tool here, I am going to review this in 3 parts, first I will give my feelings about this bundle, then I will give my feelings about the company and the tools. This Bundle:I am currently looking at the Amazon special for $169 (75% off). At first glance this price is tremendously attractive, however when you purchase these tools separately, they do come with more accessories and tool bits, therefore this is probably not as great of a deal as it appears to be. I think the person who should buy this bundle should be the person who is set to buy the most expensive tool in this bundle (the Saw max), otherwise skip it and move on and buy the tool you need individually. the soft carry case is also useless for this products category. As you know, these tools become useful with attachments and specialized bits. Can you imagine having to store these tiny bits for three different tools in one case? Neither can I! Purchasing these separately gives you the hard-cover-case and each is thoughtfully designed to store bits appropriate for the tool in its own compartment. So in conclusion, there are less attachments and tool bits and there is little value for the carry case. Therefore this makes the price in my opinion as not attractive but deceptive. I am giving this price bundle a 2 out of 5 stars but if you need the SawMax then bump the rating to 3 out of 5 stars (but only if you don't need to buy the non-included bits and pieces)Dremel the Company:Look, every company has to make money to survive, Dremel is no exception so what I am saying below is not a mark against Dremel. You just need to be comfortable with what you get. The company's business is similar to the inkjet printer model where you buy a printer (think these tools) at a reasonable cost but pay dearly for ink (think tool bits). Since most if not all of these tools have non-standardized tool bits, then you're not going to enjoy the benefit of having other manufacturers compete for your tool-bit dollar. The Tools:these tools excel at niche projects, they are not for everything or everyone. they are surprisingly versatile and effective for certain projects. In my opinion people who cut these tools down did not correctly assess these tools for the applied projects and simply made uninformed decision in purchasing these tools. Most of these these tools are great for one-offs.. for example, you can probably use the SawMax's masonry bit to cut a kitchen-flooring tile or replace a broken tile in the bathroom...but if you're gonna cut enough titles to do two bathrooms a kitchen and then need to cut some granite, then don't bother with this tool for tiling purposes... The basic formula for these tools are applications where finesse is more important than brute force, they're simply not continuous-use tools (as in don't go cutting 20 2x4s in one pass) maybe cut 2 or 3, rev-down your saw for a bit and then move on to the next batch...SawMax:If you're doing engineered wood flooring, I highly recommend the SawMax as it traces alongside the wall perfectly and cuts pieces to match the wall's curvature, corners and (most importantly) imperfections without any measurements whatsoever. This is the only single use niche reason I find for the Sawmax to exist on its own and it's a big one in my opinion. Otherwise there are more robust tools out there. (FYI, this is a horrible tool for cutting 2x4s even with the special attachment)... this tool also comes in handy for cutting plywood, counter tops or in general where you would need to use a jig saw in stright lines (think cutting out sink blueprints on laminate counter-tops). What I don't like about it is the smell of a burning electric motor/plastic when it's revving for too long.. especially when you're cutting a few porcelain tiles or granite.... (do buy the vacuum cleaner attachment, it works great....now this is a $4 piece of rubber that you buy for around $15 and it's the only one that fits your tool!.. see what I mean? That's how Dremel makes money)Multi-Max:I think this is probably the least likely case for buying this bundle. If this is what you need, move on to another manufacturer, something more robust and less costly tool bits. I found myself buying another tool after this one and now my multi-max hardly ever gets used. I just think there are better solutions out there, not that this tool is useless.3000-rotary tool.Chances are you already have this tool, if not then buy this tool regardless, it is by far one of the most versatile tools in my arsenal. At around $65 this individual bundle (Dremel 3000-1/24 1 Attachment/24 Accessories Rotary Tool) gives you a much better deal than what you see with this bundle.I hope you found this review useful, generally speaking; "marketing" tool bundles like this is rarely as good as a price they make it out to be especially if the business is centered around selling you tool bits.Special Message for Dremel Sales Employees:If you're reading this, in future, please consider bundling your existing kits instead of this kind of bundle. Your engineers already spent a lot of time thinking about the tool and its uses and create these great cases and include the most useful attachments and bits upfront. This little advantage was not forwarded to this bundle making its value sub-par. You're a quality name because you sell solutions to problems. the only thing this bundle solves is your problem at the bank ! 🙂
July 28, 2013
I already owned a cordless multi-max and a different, larger model dremel, but I did not have a saw max and can always use another rotary tool. Having a corded multi-max was also nice because the battery on the other version goes quick.Anywho, keep your eye on this bundle because it goes on sale several times a year. I got mine for $150, a GREAT deal. The bag they give you with the tools is nice, but having a larger case for each tool individually would be better. This batch comes with very limited accessories, just enough to give you an idea of what the tools can do. You'll want to load up on an accessory kit if you buy this for yourself or someone else. The tools are GREAT for small, one off jobs or for a hobbyist. They are NOT great for actual construction, or long hard labor.Want to cut a bunch of dowels? This is your tool. Want to cut a bunch of 2x4's ? Ehhhh you're going to be waiting a while.Cheaper than buying them individually. I will say that.
February 3, 2014
I like everything about this kit except for the blade changing, and that is bad enough that it's a deal-killer: I sent the whole thing back for a refund. You have to break out tools and manually change the blade, and with the way you tend to use this particular tool (the oscillating saw, that is, not the other two tools) you often have to change blades a LOT. I like the quick-change blades, and this one doesn't have that. Other than that, it's a great tool. My co-worker has a Porter-Cable oscillating saw, and I like this Dremel better--except, of course, for its fatal flaw. If they made this same kit only with the quick-change blade function, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I just received my new toy, and after looking it over, I did a little checking to see how the Dremel 8220-2/28 12-Volt Max Cordless Rotary Tool Kit compares to the Dremel 8200-2/28 12-Volt Max Cordless Rotary Tool Kit. Based on the photos, they look pretty much the same other than the model number, but there are some notable differences...First off, here are the improvements in the 8220 rotary tool vs the 8200 rotary tool:* 33% longer run time compared to the Dremel 8200 when cutting screws (direct quote from Dremel's site)* EZ Twist nose cap with wrench for fast accessory changesWhat was removed from the 8220-2/28 kit vs the 8200-2/28 kit:* 191 High Speed Cutter* 411 3/4" Sanding Disc, 180 grit (2)* 420 Emery Cut-Off Wheel (2)* 575 Right Angle Attachment* 932 Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone* 84922 Silicon Carbide Grinding StoneWhat was added to the 8220 kit vs the 8200 kit:* 426 1-1/4" Fiberglass-Reinforced Cut-Off Wheel* A550 Shield AttachmentMultiple included accessory quantities that changed:(8220 kit on left vs 8200 kit on right)* 408 1/2" 60 Grit Sanding Band (2 vs 3)* 414 1/2" Felt Polishing Wheel (3 vs 2)* 425 Emery Wheel (4 vs 1)* 429 1" Felt Polishing Wheel (3 vs 1)* 445 1/2" 240 Grit Sanding Band (3 vs 2)The most notable loss for the 8220 kit was the Dremel 575 Right Angle Attachment, about $23 on Amazon. The case includes a place for it, but the Right Angle Attachment itself is not included. It was replaced by the A550 Shield Attachment (not the Dremel A550 Rotary Tool Shield Attachment Kit, which is about $20 on Amazon). This seems like a good deal, but in the interest of comparing apples to apples, you need to subtract off the price of the accessories that would have been included in the kit to determine the actual value of the shield attachment alone: $6.79 for the EZ402 EZ Lock Mandrel, included in both the 8220 and 8200 kits $1.81 (based on the EZ456 1-1/2-Inch EZ Lock Rotary Tool 5-Pack Cut-Off Wheels for Metal pricing) for the EZ456 cut-off wheel, included in both the 8220 and 8200 kits $4.22 for the Dremel 428 Carbon Steel Brush, included in neither the 8220 nor 8200 kits $3.99 for the Dremel #8193 5/8" Wheel Grinder, included in both the 8220 and 8200 kitsTake all that away, and you're left with a value of $3.18 for the shield attachment alone. Not such a great swap. I would have preferred the 575 Right Angle Attachment instead. What stayed the same between the two Dremel kits:* 401 Mandrel* 402 Mandrel* EZ402 Mandrel* 407 1/2" 60 Grit Sanding Drum with Mandrel* 421 Polishing Compound* 432 1/2" 120 Grit Sanding Band (3)* EZ456 1 1/2" Reinforced Cut-Off Wheel* 541 Aluminum Oxide Grinding Wheel* 561 MultiPurpose Cutting Bit* 565 Cutting Guide Attachment* 8193 5/8" Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone* 12V Max Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (2) (note: the 8200 kit includes 1.3 Ah "875-01" batteries, while the 8220 kit includes 1.5 Ah "B812-01" batteries)* 876-01 Lithium-Ion 1-Hour Charger* Micro Case* WrenchThe 8220-2/28 kit is a little bit more expensive than the 8200-2/28 kit, but you lose the Right Angle Attachment and gain the A550 Shield Attachment. All in all, it appears that the 8200-2/28 kit is a better value except for the claimed lower run time and lack of the EZ Twist nose cap. If you tend to use your Dremel rotary tool for long periods of time (where additional run time would be welcome), and/or if you frequently find yourself without a collet wrench (where the EZ Twist nose cap will be useful), then grab the 8220-2/28 kit. If not, you'll probably be perfectly happy with the 8200-2/28 kit. Finally, how does it perform? It's a Dremel: it works great for my typical uses, such as cutting holes in drywall (just did that with the 561 cutter), sharpening mower blades (next weekend, with the aid of my 675 Sharpener Attachment), slotting broken bolts for easy removal and sanding or polishing parts on any of the numerous odd projects I work on around the house.Unlike my older, corded Dremel, I can turn it on or off while leaving the speed where I want it, thanks to the separate controls for speed and power. I like that I can climb up a ladder to work on the house without dragging a cord behind, and all of my existing Dremel tools fit, so I don't have to go out and buy a bunch of new accessories. I did, however, order a Right Angle Attachment from Amazon. I don't want to leave that empty spot in the case... :)I added some photos of the actual box.9/29/12: Just a few things to add... the batteries included with the 8220-2/28 kit are Dremel B812-01, and they're rated at 1.5 Amp-hours (Ah) capacity. The batteries that are included with the 8200-2/28 kit are Dremel 875-01, and they're rated at 1.3 Ah capacity, so the newer batteries have about 15% more capacity than the older batteries. That's a nice increase. As of today, the newer batteries aren't yet available in stores. If you want two batteries, go with the 8220-2/28 kit. The 8220-1/28 kit only includes one battery. Also, I've been pondering the inclusion of the A550 shield instead of the 575 right angle attachment, and I'm thinking it's a safety/liability decision more than anything. To illustrate, a 1-1/2" diameter cutting wheel has a circumference of about 4.7". At 30,000 RPM, the edge of that wheel is moving in excess of 140,000 inches per minute, which is a little more than 196 feet per minute (about 134 mph -- wow!). Although folks are supposed to wear eye protection when using any type of power tool, many people don't, so it looks like Dremel took the safer route and included a shield. With the presumably higher cost of the better batteries + the few dollars for the A550 shield, something had to go to avoid increasing the price of the kit significantly, so that's likely what happened to the 575 right angle attachment. With that in mind, I'm raising my review to 5 stars. I've been using my new 8220 kit for a while now, and I'm really very happy with it. In fact, I can't think of anything that I don't like about it. I just wish I had more stuff to use it on (and more time to use it). This is a very nice rotary tool kit.

I was contemplating buying the 7700 (7.2V), 8000 (10.8V) or 8200 (12V). My main reason for buying was to "dremel" my dog's nails but I also wanted the flexibility to use on various household projects. My biggest concern with cordless devices is the battery, stay away from NiCad or NiMH if you can. I've had other brands of rotary tools with those old batteries and while the tool works fine for the first couple of months, the battery quickly degrades - device loses torque without ramping up the RPM which can cause lots of heat transfer. The new Lithium battery holds a charge much longer even if the device is not being used, can top off anytime as well - notice how all new cellphones are switching to Lithium? The new 8220 has the newest Lithium battery so I'm hoping it will last longer than the 8200 which has mixed reviews on the battery. For me, the price difference between the 7700, 8000 vs 8200 was justifiable because a replacement battery quickly makes up the price difference. I dremel once a week or two - even at that rate the old NiCad and NiMH were not holding charge very well. The 8220 definitely is plasticky. This should be fine for home hobby use but definitely not professional grade - that is don't expect it to last long if you drop it on concrete. I'm happy with the build quality and the use of plastic because for the work I'm doing I don't want a device that's too heavy and unwieldy. The plastic box doesn't leave room to store any other accessories. The included accessories are a small sample of what Dremel makes - incidentally while there are lots of 3rd party manufacturers of Dremel accessories, I've found Dremel branded material to be higher quality. The 8220 is fairly quiet even when notched up to 30,000 RPM. I'm mainly using 5,000-10,000 RPM on my dog and it's much quieter than other rotary tools I've had in the past.Update 2013/03:I'm still very glad I purchased this model. The battery is amazing and has no problem holding charge despite weekly use. Would not hesitate to get another one.

I bought this 8220 dremel after buying the 8050 for trimming our dog's nails but wanted a more powerful dremel for other projects around the home. I knew I wanted a cordless dremel, and opted for the 12 volt 8220. My first impression was it is quite a bit bigger and heavier than the 8050. Once I charged the battery and turned it on, I knew it was a beast! I used it to cut off some hard plastic toilet valves (and replaced with SharkBite compression valves) and it cut through them with no problem. I was very impressed with the power and features of this dremel. I am just thinking of all the things I can do around the house now that I have this! Some pros of this model:1. Cordless power!2. 12 volt separate battery and charger incase you want to have additional batteries. It is a quick charging battery taking about 1 hour3. Separate power and variable speed switch. Variable from 5-30k.4. EZ twist collet lock (no need to carry around wrench)5. Takes all of the dremel attachments unlike some of the smaller models6. Handy case that stores the 8220 and many more accessoriesOverall, I plan to use this dremel a lot for things around the house. I have attached a picture of the 8220 next to my 8050 micro for a size comparison. This was the same price as the smaller model. If you have any thoughts on using the dremel for more than very light usage, I recommend going with the larger model.

Forgive me if I seem a little preachy, but quite a bit of people misunderstand what this tool is for: this is a high speed, LOW torque (in other words, do NOT apply excessive pressure), LOW amp (not much mechanical power), multi functioning rotary tool. Dremel will most likely NEVER make a rotary tool that is high speed high torque, high amp, because that's not their niche. This is for weekend warriors, do it yourself-er types, this for crafts and hobbies, this is NOT an industrial grade spinning tool, if that is what you are looking for, get a die grinder, angle grinder, flexible shaft motor tool, get high powered electric or pneumatic, Milwaukee, Foredom, Ingersoll Rand, something else, not Dremel. You'll only be disappointed if you go the Dremel route with that expectation. For Dremel's, you let speed do the work. Unless you are dealing with plastic or wood, something that melts or catches aflame, then go for high speed. Slow down on metal, speed up in ceramic (don't quote me on the ceramics, that's just my experience), go middle ground for wood, slow for plastics, and so on. I suggest ramping up the speed on a practice piece of the material you intend to remove stock from, until you reach the maximum speed you can achieve with ruining the substance in question, and then, go work on the actual piece. Here, let's cut to the chase: Positives of Dremel 4000+It is low powered, ergo, gentler on your work, more forgiving when you make a mistake+It is very speedy, but not TOO speedy, as in, not a pnuematic die grinder spinning at speeds that would make a bullet cringe.+Dremel has a ridiculously nice supply of accessories for it, good from jigsawing to power planing+It is a multi tool extraordinaire, capable of many different tasks+Ergonomic and very useful overall, a pleasure to work withNegativity about the 4000-It is pretty loud for its miniscule size, a downside if you have sensitivities to noise like me-It is low torque, so you should not use force to get work done faster-Low amps means it is not powerful enough to hold its own in large amounts of material without choking on its carbon brushes.-It is a multi tool, not a tool, so it will never be good enough at one job alone to be a keeper in THAT respectThe Dremel works smoothly, without a hitch, at least in my case. If I were to recommend any 2 accessories/attachments, I would get the detailer's grip, and the almighty keyless chuck. The chuck, because it is time saving in the extreme, and time is everything to the discerning hobbyist/artist. The detailer's grip, because the flex shaft has that irritating extra hassle in terms of set-up, and is less ergonomic in my opinion, AND, most of all, cannot stand a kink of less than five inches without overheating, so it really is more trouble than it is worth, to me. So, altogether, I would recommend this tool to any doing small scale, hobbyist work, DIY'ing, and similar stuff. That's all she wrote. Peace.

This is my second one and it stopped working for the same reason; the on/off switch gives out.Let me say this thing is used for light duty only. It was purchased for just one project; the smoothing of a wooden knife handle that was already cut and rough sanded. So light duty detail work only, and in bouts of about 20 minutes at a time. Probably got 30 minutes of use out of the first one before it died (just wouldn't turn back on after being set down in the off position). Maybe got 2 full hours out of the second. Brushes are fine, tool was cared for (all of my tools are). Can't believe 2/2 had the same issue. I thought maybe it was something I was doing, so I looked all over the internet and watched how-to, etc, but if anything I'm far less demanding than even the average user. Then I found a few other reports of the same problem and with this same tool. Won't buy a third.

I bought this Dremel 8050 to trim our puppy's nails since he fussed so much when I tried to use clippers. I use 120 grit sandpaper drums and use about 10k rpm. It is fairly quiet and does the job very well, quick and efficiently . We trim his nail weekly. He has now gotten used to it. I have never owned dremel before, so I started using this micro around the home and quickly realized it does not have the power needed to cut wood or metal other than very thin pieces. Anything more than that and the motor will shut off. I recently changed some toilet bolts and it did cut through them but it took several restarts to cut them through. If I put any pressure on the dremel, it would turn off. Some pros about this model are:1. Very lightweight and maneuverable2. LED light allows you to illuminate what you are doing3. Variable speeds from 5 to 28k. (starts at 15k when you turn on)4. Lithium ion battery technology- 8 voltIf you are going to use this for trimming dogs nails and light projects, this 8050 is probably the dremel for you. I wanted more power for other projects and also bought an 8220 which is a larger, heavier 12 volt model. I have pictured them both here for size comparison and will write a separate review for the 8220.

I use this for buffing/grinding dogs nails, for I am a Dog Groomer. LOVE IT! Light weight makes it so much easier to use than a huge, bulky, corded dremel. I love the 5 speed settings! For dogs that get scared of that "Dremel noise" I put it on the lowest setting, bearly any noise at all! (Even on some of the higher settings, it's still much more quiet than a regular corded dremel). Once you go wireless, you won't want to go back. Another amazing feature is the fact that the stand charges the dremel. When I'm not using it, but it back on the stand and let it charge back up. Never again do I have to stop a nail trim to change out my battery. Just get this dremel, you won't regret it.

I had some problems with the first one I orderd and will be sending back. Even so I ordered 2 more so not to be without one while I send it back. The charger was not working well. The Light is very useful. I have the other lithium battery ones also which work better but do not have the light.I have probably ordered over 20 dremels over the years. I hope they improve on this one but as is it is really good

At first glance - the 4200 is a very good deal, taken into consideration all the items that are included with the kit compared to individual cost of each included accessories.Unfortunately - in actual real world use - the EZ Change system proves to be the the weakest point of the design.Product Features Most powerful and versatile rotary tool in the Dremel line ( TRUE - but not by much, only 5,000RPM / 30 to 35K difference) EZ Change system-change all Dremel accessories without the wrench or collet lock (not TRUE, in fact, you need 4 sizes of collets (Dremel 4485) / and the worst part, you need a long nose plair to change them which completely defeats the purpose) Cooler running with 20-percent more air flow in venting design (YES- TRUE, but i dont like it, when i set the unit to max power, its like a blower and the air is vented underneath) Variable speed of 5,000 - 35,000 RPM with electronic feedback (TRUE - but not all attachments can be used at 35,000; in real world use, mostly- you will be using 15-25,000RPM) Includes 6 attachments and 40 accessories for maximum versatility (NOT TRUE - this is very misleading - when they say 40, they are actually counting each individual item, like 4 sanding wheels, 6 cutting wheels, 2 brushes, 4 buffers, etc.) - also, the nomenclature included with my 4200 unit was wrong - it listed all the accessories of DREMEL but the 4200 was not listed (what the hell)~ Also, the DREMEL 4486 Chuck will not work on the EZ change and so far to date - they are not offering any connector/attachment to let you use it.If you plan to buy this - IMHO - you are better off buying the Dremel 4000-6/50 or any 4000 series combos.I end up returning mine and replaced it with the 8220 series. It will cost me more but at least I can use all the Dremel attachments and accessories that I want.Again, the 4200 combo is a great deal for all the attachments included comparable to its price but - if you plan to buy more attachments and different size bits, you will quickly find yourself wanting the 4000 - also the 4000 can be adapted to use the EZ change system but the 4200 is not backward compatible (as of this writing)Hope this helps.

This particular Dremel 4200 Platinum Collection is quite good. It is powerful, useful and versatile. It comes with a slew of attachments and various tips, cutters, etcetera. The quick change option is very helpful depending on how you use it and with which attachment. It can be difficult as well because the release has to be to activated to put in or remove any accessory. Certain accessories can be tricky to use with this but overall I am very pleased with it's power and versatility. I believe it to be a worthy purchase. I have included a couple of digital images from some of the packaging for reference.
April 20, 2015
I've been a Dremel rotary tool user for over 20 years. As a general hobbyist, I'm very pleased with Dremel tools. When my old rotary tool finally wore out (in the middle of the Pinewood Derby season), I opted to upgrade to the 4200. The 4200 is noticeably larger than my old Dremel. But it doesn't get in the way. The best feature of the 4200 is the EZ Change feature. No more need for the small bit wrench, and switching bits is super fast. All the accessories that comes in this set is also a big plus.Warning though, I guess they don't make 'em like they used to. On 6/17/13, I was unable to remove the circle cutting attachment from the threaded collar. The threaded collar somehow managed to become loose from the housing and now spins freely, thus preventing removal of the attachment. I called it in to customer service, and they were great about it. I referenced diagrams in the user manual to explain the problem, and they understood right away my dilemma. 5 stars for customer service. I am currently waiting for my replacement unit as I send in the broken one. I would probably rate this a 1 star for the quick tool failure. But the customer service outshines the material defect. Way to go, Dremel!I will update once I receive the new or repaired unit.

I got a Dremel tool with a pretty big kit for my birthday back in 2003 and it had served me on at least 100 projects until 2014 when I got a bit careless and burned out the motor. I was cutting some ABS pipe and used too much pressure, and let the RPM drop too low, which ruined the tool. This model is significantly newer, and it also the top of the line model too, and I can tell. The fact it still works with the 11 year old attachments and bits from my old kit is a huge plus. I'm not going to be stupid with this one by letting the motor burn out! Will update this review if anything breaks or doesnt work, but so far so good.

I have never owned one of these and its always been on my wish list. Finally my budget allowed a purchase and I am more than happy with this. I read several reviews and decided on this model rather than the one up from this. I did read that a few people were complaining about it burning out, now this is just an observation. I would suggest that when using this there is no need to press too hard, which in my view would eventually damage the unit. I have only used the sanding part of this so far and did find that there was no need to apply pressure to it, it worked perfectly! I also love the case that comes with it, there are little logos inside indicating where to put all your accessories which is very handy. I had the same problem as a couple of others have mentioned about the collet. This only comes with one. When going through what I had received I did spend sometime trying to find the collet only after reading a review did I realize it was wedged up inside the collar. Its very easy to remove just by poking through with a small screw driver. It would be an idea if this was not fitted and left loose with the rest of the accessories so people like me can find it straight away! Its a shame it only comes with one of these. Anyway I am very excited to try out all the parts to this and am amazed at all the possibilities. So glad I bought a Dremel and not one of the other makes!

I cannot attest to this being the best rotary tool on the market. I can state that it has met or exceeded my expectations for every task I have completed with it.I have sharpened, cut, used it to router, burnished, polished, and drilled with this tool. I have owned a rotary saw and another manufacturers rotary tool, neither were as good as this Dremel 4000.I chose this Dremel model over others based on customer reviews I found on the Dremel website. I cannot compare this to other models, but believe this tools is equally well built as my fathers 40 year old Dremel. The "kit" included with my purchase was nice. I did need to purchase accessories day one which is okay, but a bit disappointing. The most disappointing discovery was that I needed to purchase a collar kit in order to fully use all the accessories provided. I think it would be nice if they would keep something out of the kit and replace it with the collars. My $.02.

I have an old Dremel 395, and I recently purchase a 4000 and most recently this 300 series kit. These are all being put to use in an electronics station I've built for different purposes. By far, my old 395 is a far, far better built and more precise tool. You can even tell by the weight of the old 395 that it is a tougher tool. The 4000 is a decent tool, but the feel of it is just light, and cheap, but at least the shaft seems to be centered and true. This 300 I just bought has a very noticeable wobble and bind to the shaft, and I called Dremel about this issue. I was surprised by their attitude and the response of "Dremels are not precision tools". Basically, the conversation ended with "if you don't like it, return it to the store" and was left with a feeling they have tossed quality out the window to save money on production, and it doesn't concern them. I was going to use the 300 in the Dremel workstation's drill press I bought for use with very small drill bit work on circuit cards, but the wobble is so bad I know it will snap the bits. Instead, the 4000 I bought will be used on the drill press, and I have decided to use this 300 instead with the flex shaft I bought since it doesn't seem to impede it's operation any, so that will be it's job from now on. Very, very disappointed with you Dremel. You were always better than this. Also... I would like to note that many of their grinding bits are poorly centered now and off balance. If Dremel doesn't get their act together, they'll gain a reputation of poor quality, and that's hard to shake. I'll be looking elsewhere on the internet for old 395's from now.

I bought this Dremel tool for precise work: I used my other Dremel a lot for wood carving and although it still performs well after so much abuse, the shaft is probably slightly bent and this made it not suitable for the very fine drilling required by vias in my home PCB prototype production.I already had the drilling column and I figured out that I should just buy another Dremel for it. This model is just fine, even overkill for the work it is destined to do. It feels as sturdy as my 395 and although I will not abuse it as much to preserve it for its special purpose, I would not hesitate recommanding it for the same tasks I perform with my older one.As for my vias drilling issue, it delivers: I get perfect holes with a 1/32" bit.The toolset it comes with is pretty complete although I would have welcome a keyless chuck in the package. This would have earned it my fifth star.

I bought this for my husband we have had other rotary tools, but Dremel is by far the best! I dont know who uses it more . The best thing about this Dremel is being able to choose and change the speed and wouldnt you know the low speed is actually a low speed, which is nice for those jobs where you want to be careful. I also love Dremels handy storage cases, rugged and tough on the outside and inside every piece of the kit has its own little slot even the owners manual has its place. No more loose bits and pieces banging around loose. I dont know about Oprah, but Dremel is one of my most favorite things!

I do not know how I have lived without a Dremel before now! As a college student, cosplayer, and someone living in a small space, large power tools are just not a option. For the small jobs that I have, this dremel gets the job done. I greatly enjoy the ten settings, although I do wish that the cord was a little longer but if that's my only complaint then I am golden!

Been wanting a new Dremel to replace the one which was taken over/given to the teenager a while ago. This set is wonderful with all the attachments/accessories which come with it. The case, itself, has room to put some of the other attachments into which we bought for it separately. Husband loves the variable speed on it which we did not have on the other one. Definite upgrade! I cannot wait to do some fine engraving with extra accessories we found in addition to what comes in the kit.

All the products on our list have been tested by our experts, who have firsthand experience in using some of these products. All products have to go through the same testing procedure, before giving a final rating. Here are the steps we used for testing:

  1. Assessment

The first step to testing involves assessing the safety of the power tool. We ensure that each tool is safe for use and all parts are in working order. If the tool does not meet our safety standards, then no testing shall be done on that tool.

  1. Preparation

Preparation is the next step on our testing procedure. Brand new power tools always have issues switching on immediately. For this reason, we have to connect the cord to the power outlet and wait for a few minutes for the tool to “warm up”. Preparing cordless tools involves recharging the batteries. It is not advisable to use a power tool that is on low battery.

  1. Onsite Testing

The third phase is the actual testing. Here we switch to the tool and test it by replicating how the Rotary tool will be used in a real-life situation. During onsite testing, we check on the performance of the motor, analyze the speed of the rotary parts, and check on issues such as energy efficiency, noise, and cooling system. We comprehensively test every aspect of the product.

  1. Results

Here, we provide a score for each tool. We use existing government and industry standards to establish if a particular tool meets the requirements. For instance, when checking on energy efficiency, we have to test the product against standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency and provide a score, accordingly.

Choosing the Right Tool

Choosing a list of the most suitable power tools is no mean task.

We know that prospective users would like to know how we tested the various tools on our list. Well, to be honest, we used a number of testing techniques to determine the best Dremel kits. We also considered various factors to come up with the list. Let’s have a look at our selection criteria and strategies we used for testing.

Factors We Considered:

  • Safety

Safety comes first when selecting any electronic device. Considering the fact that power tools can be dangerous if not handled well, we had to look at the safety measures that each and every power tool on our list provides.

What safety features does each power tool provide? Is it safe to use it around children? The safety of you household is paramount to us, and that is why we chose tool kits that have the highest safety ratings.

  • Energy Ratings

In a world where going green has become the norm, we had to consider the energy efficiency of every Dremel tool kit on our list. Energy efficiency seeks to reduce the amount of energy that is required to operate various tools and machines.

How much energy does a particular Dremel tool kit require for its operation? The energy ratings of each tool determined our selection criteria.

  • Input Power

Many users misconstrue that input power is equal to output power. Let us be clear on this. Input power refers to the amount of power the tool needs to operate, while output power refers to the amount of power the machine releases during operation. A lot of power is often lost during operation, thus the output power is always lower than the input power.

We selected the tools that tend to lose the least amount of power during operation. The motor power and performance was instrumental in determining our selection criteria.

  • Warranty

A warranty is a guarantee from the manufacturer to the consumer, promising a refund, repair or replacement in case the purchased product encounters any problems that come as a result of the manufacturer’s laxity or negligence. Problems caused by the consumer are not covered by warranty.

Warranty only covers a certain period and therefore products that become faulty after the warranty has expired are not considered. All the Dremel rotary tools on our list have a warranty of at least one year.

  • Customer Reviews

Let’s not forget that a happy customer is a satisfied customer. We went through various customer reviews to establish the best Dremel power tools that customers are talking about. While some tools had a few critical reviews, most of them had positive reviews.

All Dremel tool kits come with their appropriate accessories, further underlining the reputation of the Dremel brand as a highly reliable company. Tool accessories perform various functions including sanding, scraping, engraving, drilling and many more.

To save money on Dremel tool accessories, it is always advisable that you acquire tool accessory kits and sets rather than purchasing individual tools. The number of tool accessories is many, and cannot be exhausted in the fine print. However, the following are five tool accessories that come with the aforementioned tool kits.

  • Sanding Bands and Discs
Rather than use sandpaper for polishing and finishing, sanding bands and discs make work easier and faster. Sanding is not limited to sanding bands and discs for they are other tool accessories including flap wheels, sanding drums and sanding tubes.
  • High-Speed Cutter
Would you like to save time on your cutting projects? Then use the high-speed cutter to make fast and precise cuts on your D I Y projects.

  • Engraving Cutter
Engravers would love this tool accessory. It is used for engraving various cuts on a wide range of materials including metal, wood, plastic and stone
  • Polishing Wheels
As the name suggests, polishing wheels are used for cleaning surfaces and polishing. They provide an exquisite finish on any project, giving it a new and refreshing look.

 Dremel Tool Attachments

Tool accessories and tool attachments are totally different things. While tool accessories refer to the bits that are used in routine lathe machine operations, attachments refer to special fixtures or parts that are mounted on the collet to expand the operations of the tool.

Attachments give the tool a dedicated function for enhanced versatility. Dremel tool attachments are many, and they come in handy especially when faced with difficult or demanding DIY projects.

Attachments are good for circle cutting, routing and extended reach, among others. By using attachments, we are able to reach even the narrowest of spaces.

Dremel  Tool Bits

To begin with, Dremel tool bits are similar to the Dremel tool accessories.

These bits are mounted onto the collet of the tool with the aim of providing various functions. Quite a number of bits do exist, ranging from drilling bits to engraving bits. Tool bits do come with the main tool kit.

However, you need to purchase extra tool bits if you want to improve the versatility of your tool. From our research, we would advise you to purchase tool bits from genuine sources such as Amazon, Walmart or Bunnings. Buying from a reputable source will ensure that you get a warranty on your product. Using this guarantee, you can claim a refund or replacement in case you encounter a problem.

Dremel Tool Cordless

Dremel tools are no longer limited to traditional corded devices. To improve on the portability of their tools, Dremel decided to launch cordless versions, which have proved to be a massive success among users.

These cordless tools use Lithium batteries for their operations. From our research and testing, we found out that cordless tools are not only versatile but also convenient. One does not need to connect the tool to a power outlet for it to function.

What makes it special?

They are usable even in places that do not have electricity, as long as the batteries are fully-charged. Moreover, users can purchase a Lithium Ion Battery pack attachment and ensure that they do not run out of power when working on their projects.

How To Use

Using a Dremel tool kit depends on the kind of project you are undertaking. Different projects require different tools and different methods of usage. However, for common usage, here are steps on how to use the Dremel tool kit. Let’s get down to the bottom of this.

  1. Choose your Dremel tool kit.
  2. Read through the user manual.
  3. Wear relevant protective clothing or safety gear.
  4. Practice inserting tool bits and attachments.
  5. Ensure that you use the appropriate bits or attachment for the job.
  6. Make sure the Dremel tool is off before connecting it to the power source – this helps to prevent electrocutions.
  7. Switch on your tool and use it appropriately.
  8. To ensure safety and proper maintenance of the tool kit, it is advisable to clean your tool after use – according to instructions provided in the manual.

Warranty

Every Dremel tool kit comes with a limited warranty ranging from one year to four years. As aforementioned earlier, a warranty is a guarantee from the manufacturer to the consumer, promising to refund, repair or replace a damaged tool.

However, the damage has to come from the manufacturer’s part, for the warranty to be valid. Any damaged caused by the users’ negligence is not covered. Remember, manufacturers demand that a product has to be bought from a authenticate supplier, for a warranty to be valid.

Always carry a receipt as proof of purchase, before making a warranty claim.
