I love this little coffee pot! To use, I fill my mug up with water, pour it in, use 3 level tablespoons of freshly ground coffee and brew. I pulled out the pause 'n serve plug so it can brew directly into my mug. My mug fits perfectly, it's a 16 ounce stoneware, so no problems having it on the warming plate. My mug is from Blue Eagle Pottery, just google it, pricey, but it's the perfect mug.

[4.5 stars]Buying a Mr. Coffee coffeemaker is like buying Kleenex tissue, or a Frigidaire fridge, or (once upon a time) a Xerox copier. I.e., you may be quite sure you will get something of quality. And so when my trusty old Mr. Coffee began to show signs of burnout (I think I bought it back in the last century)I never hesitated to replace it . . . with a Mr. Coffee. And here it is. Arrived right on time and in perfect shape. Now, let's look at the specs from the product description, with my comments added:4 cups x 5 oz = 20 oz of liquid OK. Well, this is rubbish, of course. You probably have your favorite coffee mug. So let's say that 20 oz liquid = two mugs worth. (I mean, seriously. Does anyone drink coffee out of a 5 oz cup?) Anyway, two mugs worth is what you're going to get when you fill the machine to the mythical four cups.On/off indicator light lets you know when your coffeemaker is on or off I should certainly hope so!Removable filter basket lifts out for fast and easy filling and cleaning Indeed it does.Brewing pause 'n serve lets you pour a cup of coffee while the coffeemaker is still brewing Why so it does! Although I doubt I shall ever use this feature, it's good to know it's here.Dual water window shows the amount of water in the reservoir for accurate filling Totes amazeballs. Best window on a coffee maker I've ever seen.Ships in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging Nothing is enclosed in bulletproof plastic. No "peanuts." Yay.And in addition, there's a delay timer, for those who like to prepare everything the night before. Just set the clock (which is easy. Just set the hour and the minute--it starts to go immediately without your having to press, say, a "program" key or something to let the clock know it's time to start. (You'll see when you turn it on it's set for, inevitably, 12:00 a.m.Then, when you set the clock, press "set delay." Set the time you want the device to start. Then press "delay." You're all set.I should tell you, too, that the temperature of the brew is just right, for my tongue (but I add cream, so . . . ) Grains from the brew process do not seem to find their way into the carafe. And, it shuts off by itself after an hour, like all good electronic devices should do when they're not needed. So, why only 4.5 stars? Well, while the machine itself seems to have been designed by Dilbert or Alice, the pointy-headed guy must have got in the way and had Wally do the lid. The catch is awkward. The basket must be inserted just so, and if it is, maybe it'll snap tight.Or maybe you'll have to wrestle with it a bit.So all in all, you won't be sorry you purchased this product--a bargain at $20.Warning: You'll have to buy filter papers or a permanent filter separately--I opted for the permanent filter. Yo! Mr. Coffee CEO. Throw in a permanent filter with each machine. Buy 'em in bulk, so you only have to charge customers a couple of bucks more. Take a bow.

I'm going to take a little time out of my day to talk about something I feel strongly about. Indeed, I'm sure many people in the northwest and across the country are passionate in regards to this subject.Coffee.I must start by mentioning that in my early college years, I drank copious amounts of this tasty beverage. So much, in fact, that I became completely dependent, and resolved to quit consumption of all caffeine, a resolution that I maintained for roughly 8 years. You read correctly. Eight years, no coffee. However, upon my return to Seattle, where I was surrounded by amazing smelling brews and beans everywhere I went, coffee made its triumphant return into my life. I still vividly remember the cortado that broke my will and sent my palate to caffeinated heaven. Now that we're current on my fascinating history with coffee consumption, let's move on to what I really want to address: making coffee.Over the past two years, I have joined the quest to make the perfect cup. I know that many of you are partial to espresso mixed drinks, but for me it's a cup of drip made with high quality dark roast beans, served black.I wanted to find something that surpassed the k-cup machine at work, as the coffee resulting from these machines has only ever been mediocre for me. And so, given that the cheap coffee was made so quickly, I started with the premise that the more time and care taken in making the coffee, the better it will be. This led to the procurement of several different coffee-making devices, as well as many hours and beans spent using said devices. I tried different temperatures, grinds, brewing times, everything I could to try and obtain the flavors I desired in my cup. My results were never consistent, frequently disappointing, and tiresome. Even the brews that turned out well didn't come up to the level of what I expected from the fantastic beans I had procured.I finally gave in and bought the last device I ever wanted in my home, the device that seemed to stand for laziness and mediocrity.A Mr. Coffee generic drip coffee machine, $24.99 on amazon. Its plastic parts are cheap and flimsy, and though the reviews say it'll last a long time, I would be surprised. I finally decided to use it today, and made my first brew of drip with it using the same beans I'd been experimenting with. The result?THE BEST CUP OF DRIP I'VE HAD SINCE MY RETURN TO COFFEE!Yes, this post was inspired by a cup of drip coffee from a generic, cheap coffee machine. And I'm not saying just the best cup of drip I've made, oh no. I'm including every cup of drip I've consumed at the various coffee houses throughout Seattle! This little champ took my carefully chosen beans and delivered everything I ever wanted from a cup of joe. After everything I've tried, for this thing to deliver such a high quality brew is absolutely astonishing. If you have struggled as I have struggled, if you still haven't been able to brew coffee as you wish you could, I say give up. Give in. Instead of nurturing your pride and trying to brew, consuming sub-par result after result, you could be enjoying amazing cup after cup from a $25 machine.Thank you Mr. Coffee, and I'm sorry I ever doubted you!

I needed to get a coffee maker for my mother who lives in Assisted Living and it had to have an auto shut off since that's something she would forget to do. It also had to be very simple and only make a few cups. I also wanted something that wasn't going to occupy a lot of counter space since there wasn't much real estate in her compact kitchenette. And it couldn't have a clock and lots of push buttons...she would never use it. This model mostly fits the bill. I agree with those who commented it doesn't make 4 cups. If you use those small, white styrofoam cups then it makes 4 cups, but if you use an average sized ceramic coffee mug then you will get about two cups. I was okay with that because I didn't want her making tons of coffee only to sit there and get cold. But I do think they should stop promoting it as 4 cups. Also, the plastic blue thing on the front of the filter housing seems to do nothing. At first I thought it was a button to push or slide up to release the filter housing, but it appears to be cosmetic only, which is rather confusing to the end user. It also takes smaller filters than the average size. I wish it used a reusable filter. Some commented it took forever to make coffee. That has not been my experience at all. This model is specified as "commercial", presumably meaning it's used in hotels/motels, so hopefully that means it will be reliable long term.My main gripe is the coffee spills out of the top very easily when pouring it out of the glass container. Ditto if you are using it to fill the water chamber. Have a towel near by. Other than that, I recommend this model for those looking for something simple, small, and quick.

I have to say that this is a very nice coffee maker. Steel carafe is a nice feature. We use this in our RV so the small compact size is a plus. Watch out though, coffee filters seem literally nonexistent, neither the instructions or the Andis website give any clue as to where to get filters that work in this device. I have gotten pretty good at making filters out of paper towels. Second, it is DEFINITELY NOT 4-cups! More like two.

This is my second Andis coffee maker. I bought the first several years ago and recently managed to accidentally cut the cord, sigh. At least it wasn't plugged in. Others have pointed out that the old Andis was wonderful except that the carafe was poorly designed and made pouring problematic. The good news is that after all the criticism they've redesigned the carafe and it's great! I think someone would have to work hard to spill even a drop. I love it.If anything, finding a decent 4-cup coffee maker has become even more problematic over the past few years. I've had all kinds from the least expensive to the I-can't-for-the-life-of-me-figure-out-why-this-costs-so-much kind. This coffeemaker is by far the best 4-cup I have ever owned.

Find out why this coffee machine deserves a place of honor in your home or whichever place you chose to enjoy hot delicious coffee from.

Features:

  • Automatic one-hour shutoff. This unit also has an indicator light that helps maintain the machine and conserve energy.
  • Pause and Serve allows you to feel the rich delicious flavors of the cup of mid-brew coffee. Additionally, it has easy-to-pour carafe.
  • Includes simple brewing instructions at the top side of the machine. Even beginners will find coffee making a breeze.
  • Non-stick warming plate.
  • Has a stainless steel/glass replacement carafe in case you mess around.
  • Commercial 3-prong plug.

Conclusion

Overall, Andis 4 Cup Coffeemaker is a great unit that is ideal for use in the commercial setting. Unlike its competitors, it features easy-to-follow brewing instructions that make your coffee experience a breeze.

To be honest, this unit is great more so when used in RVs. The major downfall is that the glass carafe easily breaks when abused. Another issue that seems to raise concern among users is the difficulty of getting coffee filters that are compatible with this model. The coffee filters are literally non-existent. However, with proper care, you will love pulling decent shots of delicious coffee with this unit. It is easy to set-up and clean.

PROS:
  • Includes brewing instructions.
  • Steel carafe gives the model a leg-up among its competitors.
  • Small compact size fits any settings.
  • Makes a perfect cup of hot coffee.
  • Allows you to taste a cup before brewing is complete.

CONS:
  • The coffee maker only prepares 16oz which won’t really give you 4 cups.
  • Difficult to find filters that will fit well in the filter holder.

After receiving this coffee maker, and seeing it working just like it's supposed to, brewing hot coffee and keeping it hot, I just had to say something because I read a ton of reviews before I bought it. There are a lot of clueless people that leave reviews on Amazon because they cannot figure out the most simple of things."Brews slowly". Simply not true. Brews the entire pot in about six minutes flat. I timed it. It is a small filter basket and a small unit in general. If it's brewed an entire pot in two minutes it would overflow. Get real people."The 1st cup that you try to pour spills all over the counter". Again, simply not true. Well, maybe true if you are one-handed with only two fingers and you don't have a coffee cup. It is a stout a little pot, this is true, with a small pour spout. So the 1st cup needs to be poured carefully, duh. I didn't spill a drop."The hotplate is not hot enough". Try putting your finger on that hot plate when the coffee pot is not there and it will burn the sh!t out of you. If it were any hotter, it would scald the coffee in no time flat. It's just perfect, because the pot is small and it's made like that for a reason."You cannot swing the filter basket out while the coffee pot is in place". Again, simply not true. I'd be happy to attach a video of me doing just this. Yes, you have to hold the coffee pot in one hand in swing the filter basket out with your other hand, because the entire product is small and lightweight. Which is the point if you only want a small coffee maker that does not take up space."It feels flimsy and cheap". What the heck do you expect for $16 you cheap bastard's?? It makes coffee. It keeps the coffee hot. Were you expecting some sort of titanium-framed, bullet-proof coffee maker for 16 bucks? LOL."The carafe seems very thin and delicate". Again, what do you expect for 16 bucks? Just make sure that you don't brew coffee while you are wasted at 6:30 in the morning, and you should probably be fine. The reason that I give it five stars is because of the price, because it does what it is supposed to do, and because it has a cone-shaped filter - which any coffee lover knows is the most efficient and flavorful way to drip coffee. A flat-bottomed basket is worthless. I've had those before, and if you look at the grounds along the sides of the flat basket, half of them have not even been used.

Love this little guy. I bought this as my home coffee maker for my husband and I. Its just the two of us and we dont drink much coffee at home. I also dont have much counter space so I wanted something small. The coffee maker is perfect. Its tiny and fits perfect in the cabinet when we arent using it. If you fill it all the way up with water it will make 2 cups. But my definition of a cup is a travel coffee cup for both of us. So whats the 16 ish oz. So its perfect. I fill both travel mugs and theres no left over.I also love that the filter is reusable. I never have to worry about running out of filters. I just rinse it and its good to go.I couldn't be happier with this.If my review helped please feel free to click YES
October 27, 2016
This is a good little coffee maker. If I had wanted to spend 80-230 for a Keurig, I would have purchased a Keurig. This one makes a very good, sufficiently strong cup of coffee. I would like to address some comments made by others.1. For folks who said that it doesn't make 4 cups of coffee, a standard cup of coffee is 4 - 5 ounces. 2 "cups" is about a standard mug. This device makes about 2 standard mugs.2. Coffee is plenty hot.3. Basket doesn't swing out easily, but it swings out fine. Edited: A little tight at first but loosened up after 3 or 4 uses.4. Permanent basket is made of plastic and wire mesh, not cotton. I prefer to use paper cones.5. For folks who said that they made a mess pouring the coffee, the problem is with the pourer, not the carafe. It's a small pot with a small lip. Pour accordingly.6. Speed of brewing is very fast. No problem. I brew 2 "cups" to get 1 standard mug. Coffee is ready very quickly.7. Someone said that the carafe burns after the last cup of coffee is poured because there is no automatic shut-off. That is correct, and this machine did not purport to have an automatic shut-off. Turn off the machine when you pour the last cup of coffee & you won't have a problem.8. Warming plate keeps coffee plenty hot but not so hot that the carafe will break. I've left coffee on it for a couple of hours.I'll change this review if it breaks. Very good product for the amount of money spent. Edited to add: I've used it now for a couple of months. Absolutely no problems. Cone shape makes excellent coffee. Don't expect a fancy programmable k-cup. This is a basic coffee maker. It makes great coffee. Period.

I bought this coffee maker with the hope that it would save space on my counters and make a good cup of coffee,I got 1 out of 2. It sure is small.Attached are pics of the coffee made and the grind. I used just-opened French roast coffee we have bought for years from C****o, coffee that has made many, probably thousands of good cups of coffee [and "redeyes"] over the years. I put the full 40g of coffee in the grinder, used 75% of the water needed to make a full pot. The coffee was literally see-through [yuck], probably because of the fairly useless grinder. One full pot does, as described in other reviews, make a little over 1 "normal" cup of coffee.Plus, there is no way that this can make a cup of coffee, then be turned around for a quick second - or one for the spouse. The coffee makers innards would have to be dried off before a second pot could be made. A deal killer for us.Going back ASAP.

Within Minutes I'm enjoying my coffee.Coffee tastes so much richer then when I used my Keurig, which now is stored away.Easy Clean Up!Overall, A nice addition to my kitchen counter. Receiving many compliments from Family & Friends.Recommend as a Great Gift for College Student in their dorms.

The Haier Brew Automatic Coffee Maker with Grinder is a fantastic addition to any kitchen. For a great price you get a workhorse of a machine that does the work of multiple gadgets saving you time and space. Not only does it make coffee but also grinds whole beans.I really enjoy the retro design and I've yet to see another like it.It would be a PERFECT birthday or holiday gift for the coffee lover in your life.Upon opening the box you will receive the Coffee/Espresso maker and pot,a scoop, cleaning brush and directions.I really like that you can measure out the perfect amount of coffee,it really takes the guesswork out of everything.Another plus is there is no need for filters or wasteful plastic cups. You can make up to 4 cups (20 ounces) at a time which I think makes the Haier Coffee maker a competitor with other brands on the market as it does both,it makes a pot or a single cup at a time.It is also very easy to clean! Just allow it to cool, press the top tabs and take all the pieces out.Rinse in a mild soapy water and use the little brush provided as the blades can be very sharp! Let air dry!'I can honestly say this machine has replaced my "K*&^%G" due to not wanting to be so wasteful with "cups" and wanting to make more than one cup at a time. I read tons of reviews on various stove top espresso pots before purchasing and returning a 4 cup Bialetti Brikka, and then finally purchasing this 4 cup Cuisinox Roma. I hope this review can be as helpful as possible to those considering which coffee contraption to buy. There's lots of stove top espresso pots out there, so how do you choose one? In the end, your goal should be to get a pot that has quality construction and not worry about whether or not other reviews say it makes great coffee. What makes the coffee good will mostly depend on the factors you control anyway. So, IS THE CUISINOX ROMA WELL MADE? YES, IT IS! Here's why:-DURABLE AND DISHWASHER SAFE: This pot is heavy and has a nice finish both inside and out. The Bialetti I first purchased, which is supposed to be the gold standard in moka pots, was aluminium and had sharp, jagged seams on the inside. An aluminum pot must first be seasoned and then it can only be rinsed without soap. You can do the same thing with a stainless pot, making it super low maintenance, but you have the added benefit of being able to throw it in the dishwasher occasionally.-SUPERIOR SEAL: Probably the #1 complaint in reviews on stove top espresso pots is that they leak water or coffee out of the seal onto the hot burner. Some reviews say that eventually the seal will brake in and stop leaking. My Bialetti leaked so much that my pot couldn't build enough pressure to even make the coffee! The Cuisinox Roma has not leaked a drop from day 1. The rubber gasket provided has enough squish to seal well, and they even include an additional gasket in the box.-CONSISTENT QUALITY: The reviews for cheaper pots were extremely polarized. Either people loved them or hated them due to product defects. I took a chance and purchased a pot for half the price of this Cuisinox Roma and was extremely disappointed in the defective pot that I received. I purchased this pot because of the high overall percentage of positive reviews. Now that I've used my pot, I find those positive reviews to be accurate.-THE HANDLE: It's stainless steel, not plastic, and it's tightly welded in two places. The #2 complaint you will see about stove top espresso pots is that the handle fell off or became loose. Some people have complained that the handle gets hot, but I preheat my water and have never had a problem. More about that later.ARE THERE ANY DRAWBACKS TO THE CUISINOX ROMA? YES, JUST A COUPLE. Here are the negative points:-HEAT CONDUCTIVE HANDLE: As I mentioned this is easily avoided by preheating water. When I first read about preheating water, I thought it was totally stupid. Why heat the water beforehand when the pot is designed with a water chamber for just that purpose? If that's what you think too, let me try and change your mind. A stove top espresso pot takes somewhat of a watchful eye. You need to watch the speed of the coffee stream that emits from the spout to adjust your burner temperature and keep your coffee from over or under-extracting. The pot also needs to be removed from the burner promptly during the characteristic puff-puffs of the pot just before he last bits of overly watery coffee can come through the spout into the reservoir. You can't just set the pot on the burner and leave it, but it's not very convenient to sit and stare at your pot until the water finally starts to steam and create pressure. If you boil a kettle of water, take it off the burner for a minute to let it stop boiling, pour the hot water into the water chamber, and set the espresso pot on the already hot burner (after turning down the temp) the coffee begins extracting almost immediately without cooking your grounds while waiting for the water to heat. Now you can watch the show right away and you only have to stand watch for a minute or two while the coffee reservoir fills. It's so easy! I can let a kettle of water "over boil" for a couple minutes without any negative consequences, but if I let my coffee over heat on the stove top for even a couple minutes then I've ruined the whole thing. Trust me, preheat the water.-RIDGE IN THE RESERVOIR: The inside of the coffee reservoir has a deep ridge circling the outer edge. This makes a butter knife and a towel necessary to wipe out the fine coffee grounds that accumulate down there. It's inconvenient, but not a deal-breaker. That's why this review has 4 stars instead of 5.OTHER GENERAL NOTES:- The coffee cup in the funnel is the size of a 1/4 cup and therefore needs about 1/4 cup of coffee.-Without using the reducer, this pot consistently makes about 6 oz of coffee.-You won't use all the water from the water chamber and that's okay. As I mentioned, the last coffee to exit the spout is too watery and will weaken the overall cup. Remove the pot from the burner just as you hear the puff-puffs to avoid this.-The coffee produced is more like really strong coffee and less like coffee shop espresso, but this is to be expected of all stove top espresso pots.THIS REVIEW WAS A LONG READ, BUT HOPEFULLY WORTH IT! Now go have some coffee.

I upgraded to the Cuisinox Roma from the aluminum Bialetti, which had worked very well for 4 years, but i wanted to switch to safer stainless steel. The Roma is VERY well made - all 3 parts feel substantial when you hold them in your hand and there's no coating on the inside of the base as described in reviews of several other stainless pots, like the Bialetti. After experimenting with a few different techniques i think i have the one that works best for me and produces the strongest espresso accompanied by a very nice crema on top. What i found is that preheating the water in the base until bubbles just start to form on the bottom, and then putting on the basket and top, ensures that the first water that reaches the coffee is hot. When you start with cold water, as soon as the water starts heating pressure starts building and the first water to reach the coffee is only warm, not hot. The coffee i got starting with cold water really couldn't be called espresso - it still tasted great but it was only medium strength, had no crema at all, and, when mixed with steamed milk for a latte, the coffee flavor all but disappeared in the milk. This is a really good coffeemaker and it's design is beautiful too!

I hemmed and hawed about a small coffee maker and ended up buying this at a B, B, & B store locally. I have used a Cuisinart DCC-1100 12-cup maker for a couple years and so can compare the 2 machines well. I took a few pics of it as well.First: this is a compact machine. It says 4 'cups' - and means 5 oz. cups. Many/most coffeemakers are set up that way. The water measure is very accurate (as with the DCC-1100). I don't use the pot to fill the tank - I just use a spare water or pop bottle that is 20 oz. (5 oz. x 4 'cups' = 20 oz.). It is MUCH easier to fill the tank with a bottle. Besides, if you just look in the tank, there are "steps" for 2c, 3c, 4c. in it (see the pic). When the water is level with or just over the step, there you go. Easy.Second: the extraction and brew is excellent. I opened the lid to check a few times, the grounds are underwater. I am using 1 TBSP coffee (Gevalia or Peet's, a finer grind) per "cup" and have great taste. I bought the gold GTF filter and I think the taste is a little better than using Melitta #2 filters (but the paper filters have faster cleanup).Third: along with great taste/strength, the temp is HOT. The pot is metal, but not insulated, so do not touch it or you may get burned. When you push in the switch to turn it on, it will only be on for 30 minutes, which is not very long. You can always pour any leftover coffee into a thermal mug if it shuts off.Fourth: brew times. I used a stopwatch to test them:For 2 cups: 4:25For 3 cups: 5:30For 4 cups: 7:30(these are when it is all done sputtering and spitting) It is not the fastest, but the taste is GREAT, so it's worth it.Fifth: regarding the carafe and spout. I think it has been redesigned since 2009 or so. I'll post a pic. The spout is set down and curved, and the pot lid has a bunch of small holes by the spout so it won't all dump out. I have had no troubles with any drips or leaks. None. To get the lid off, pivot the HANDLE side up FIRST (the spout end is resting under a small plastic projection). That way it is easy to get the lid off.Overall, the coffee taste, strength, and temperature is very similar to the full-size DCC-1100 maker. I wanted to try the small one for easier cleanup and a smaller footprint on the counter. This 4-cup maker is making good tasting, HOT coffee. Be sure to use good-tasting water, and fresher coffee, and you'll be all set.Cons: I suppose the lack of a timer; also, the maker shuts off in only 30 minutes from when you turn it ON (not 30 minutes after the brew is done). Thus, the plate heats only for 22 to 24 minutes.I can't vouch for the long-term reliability - I've only used it about a week. But once you taste how it brews, you'll like it. I am impressed thus far. From experience I can say that keeping the metal pot clean is VERY important as it won't stay as smooth as glass does, and it can harbor old taste and smells. Besides washing after each use, you can periodically use Citric acid or vinegar solution, or even baking soda + dish soap to remove any stains or smells.UPDATE: August 2014Still using this little pot, and it works great. No leaks or problems. Still great taste, and hot temperature. Be sure to properly insert the lid (spout end first, then pivot down to handle) and also be sure the basket is fully seated, and no leaks. If it had a timer I would give it 5 stars.I did some temperature testing; after brewing a pot, I put a thermometer in it and it was 180 *F. Very hot. Overall, it is very compact and convenient vs. a big maker, since I'm the main coffee drinker. I've been using "Brew Rite" cleaner and that works better than vinegar, it cleans fully with NO smell or aftertaste.Update: Dec. 2015Still using this pot, it seems to work well, and it still makes hot coffee. The warming plate has a couple scratches and is showing some wear, but I still wipe it gently with a clean wet washcloth each day. One thing I've noticed over time is that the coffee can get really *HOT* if you leave it on the burner, especially if only a little is in the pot. *At times it can make it taste burnt/scalded.* I usually like to add liquid creamer, and I pour it only a minute or so after it's done brewing, so it's not all the time I notice that. I usually set it up the night before work, plug it in, so when I saunter into the kitchen I can just push the button to start it.Update: Jan. 2016:I am noticing that the taste seems off lately - I think the metal pot is making the coffee burnt / scalded / too hot? I compared it to the DCC-1100 maker, and the coffee tastes a bit better in the glass pot. Perhaps after a year or so it starts running too hot? The flavor is better if I use a Melitta filter (it has pores) or the gold tone filter, versus a normal white filter (the first 2 allow the water to drain through the filter faster). I brewed around 4 cups on the DCC-1100 maker, on the "1-4" setting, and compared it. The larger maker made a bit better tasting coffee. I think if the 4-cup maker had a glass pot, it would taste better (but then easier to break...)UPDATE again - May 2016:Okay, sorry for the long review, sometimes I can be wordy... I decided to test this out some more recently. On vacation I retested some Gevalia House Blend, and it was good tasting coffee, rich and smooth but not burnt. So, at home, I used some Gevalia Guatemala coffee, and it came out quite good, hot, flavorful. ** I seemed to have worse flavor when using darker, more roasted (burnt?) coffees like Starbucks and Caribou. They were tasting bad, maybe it was overextracting them?So I'll say that a Medium or Light roast coffee can taste pretty good, and hot in this maker; the flavor with Melitta #2 filters (have pores) or the Cuisinart GTF-4 gold filter is better than plain white filters. I still wipe up any spills from the hot plate, and run a 1/3 vinegar brew every 4-5 weeks, and it is pretty clean. If the filter basket weren't as finicky to double check for being fully seated, it would be better. If the coffee comes out a little too strong with fine grinds (Peet's, Gevalia, etc.) at 1 TBSP per "cup", then I just use 1/2 TBSP less in total.I will say that coffee tastes better if you don't leave it on the hot plate a long time; I think it heats it too hot when I do. So I just brew what I want, wait a minute after the sputtering is done, and pour it into a travel mug so it doesn't 'cook' on the burner. Wow, have had this over 2 years now, and it is still working perfectly. Hey, maybe Cuisinart could send me some dinero/tips/remuneration for the thorough review? jk
March 5, 2014
I previously owned a 12-cup coffeemaker, which actually was too large as I am the only coffee drinker in the house. Not only being too large for my use, it took up extra space on my counter because it was too tall to fit under the cabinets. As such, I was thinking of buying a smaller coffeemaker, but the one I had still worked very well so it didn't make sense to buy a new one. Then the carafe broke which opened up the possibility for me to purchase a smaller one. I read the previous reviews on this product, and I would disagree whole-heartedly with any of the negative reviews. For example, that the basket opens during brewing is in error because you need to snap the lid down before brewing. If you snap it in place, it will not open. Then I read that the carafe gets too hot, but why would you touch a hot carafe in the first place? It is made of stainless (thus unbreakable like glass carafes!) so would be very hot to the touch...DUH!! If you are looking for a smaller coffeemaker that works well and takes up less counter-top space than larger coffeemakers, this is the right coffeemaker for you. It's well constructed; definitely not made from cheap materials. It also feels very solid, much more so than my previous machine. I would highly recommend this to anyone. The only con I have is the carafe lid is a bit hard to take off the carafe; but that's such a minuscule negative that it really doesn't counter how great this coffeemaker really is.
November 14, 2014
So far, so good. I am totally pleased with this little coffeemaker. I was a little bit leery after reading reports that it dripped horribly. I bought it anyway, however, because several of the solutions that had been proposed by reviewers seemed totally reasonable (hang the spout over the edge of the cup, keep the spout clean to prevent the disruption of water tension, and always pour s-l-o-w-l-y). I couldn't be more pleased. If you're looking for a small volume, compact coffeemaker, there are few really great choices. I've had a 4-cup coffeemaker from another manufacturer - talk about DRIPPY! You had to lift the lid with your thumb to pour coffee without making a huge mess. Plus, the coffee never tasted good, no matter how fresh and high-quality my beans were. The Cuisinart 4-cup coffeemaker is cleverly designed and well-made, and the coffee it has brewed up so far has been superb. I like the fact that the carafe is durable, I like (need!) the automatic shut-off feature, and I'm thrilled with its cheery red color and great coffee. I will revise my review if the Cuisinart 4-cup develops dripping problems, but no spillage yet. Yes, we're still in the honeymoon phase. But so far, I'm in love. :-)UPDATE: Still in love, 10 months later. I have not suffered any of the problems that other reviewers listed. I love its simplicity and cheery appearance, the coffee tastes great, and the automatic shut-off has saved me more than once. I would definitely buy this little coffeemaker again.

Well, yes is does make coffee. Not really good coffee, but not bad either. It is a "4 cup" coffee maker, BUT the pot holds a max. of 20 oz. So if you have 5 oz cups, you're good to go. Otherwise, not so much. The lid on top flips back about 90 degrees but is not removable so putting it in the dishwasher will not work. The size of the opening on top is too small for my hand to fit into to wash it. Small, tiny hands would be fine. The plastic feels insubstantial. The green on/off light can be an issue if there is bright sunshine in the kitchen as it looks "on" in both positions. The coffee enters into the pot at 185 degrees, which is a shade too cool for a good brew. But, for the price, it will do. My prior Mr. Coffee 4 cup coffee maker died after 10 years. It was a much better product on all counts, but it no longer available. Sigh.

We have been using a Keurig for years. I love the Keurig, but I didn't love the wastefulness or the added expense. When looking at ideas to cut down on costs around the house, the coffee budget definitely came up. This has cut down on the expense of coffee dramatically, without cutting back on flavor at all. If anything, the flavor of our coffee has improved, because I can now afford to drink a better brand of coffee! I love how quick and simple this is.Cons- The ONLY thing I would change about this coffee maker would be for it to shut off automatically after a certain amount of time. I am quite forgetful about this and have burnt the pot a couple of times already.
April 1, 2015
Okay coffeemaker if you aren't picky. It does not heat the coffee to around 200 degrees. That temperature is required for a really great cup of coffee. If you're just looking for the morning shot of caffeine and aren't too concerned about it being really, really good this is a coffeemaker to meet your needs.

Have a look at these great features:

Features:

  • Dual water windows. A great feature for those who like accuracy when filling. You can easily monitor the amount of water in the reservoir.
  • On/Off indicator light that keeps you alert when the machine is powered on or off.
  • Removable filter basket. It easily lifts out to allow for quick and easy cleaning.
  • Cord storage. Stores excess cord so as to keep the countertop free of any mess.
  • Pause N’ Serve function. You can conveniently pour a rich flavorful cup of coffee and enjoy.

Conclusion

I would say Mr. Coffee DR5 4-Cup Coffee Maker is a much better product considering all counts. Designed to simply coffee brewing, this unit still maintains rich flavors. Featuring a removable filter, this unit serves you clean coffee while making cleaning pretty simple. The On/Off indicator light gives you peace of mind when you are not sure whether the unit is powered off or on.

More promising is the fact that you can make a serving while brewing is still in progress. Overall, this coffeemaker can cut down on daily coffee bills without compromising the flavors.

PROS:
  • Brews quickly.
  • Easy to use.
  • Removable filter for quick easy cleaning.
  • One can make a serving before brewing is finished.

CONS:
  • The size of the top opening is too small.

The price was right for this item. I paid around $9 for it. That being said I wouldn't pay much more than that. The overall design is fine, but it has a few quirks. The first being its hard to get the carafe in the right position since the top has a large bump. Its not something that would be terrible, or make me hate it, but it is a nuisance that bothers me when I'm replacing it while holding a cup of coffee in my other hand. The other issue I have is the coffee from this maker just isn't as strong. I believe its design allows too much water to flow through the basket too quickly leaving you with a weaker taste. My old mister coffee allowed a smaller amount of water through and the flavor was perfect. I've taken to allowing some water to collect in the basket and soak the grounds before I put the carafe in place. Tedious yes, but I need my coffee strong, and a weak cup of joe before morning chores won't cut it. The last issue is the pouring... whoever designed the pour spout set back from the side of the carafe should be fired. My husband being an engineer took one look at it and stated that it would be an issue. Well don't pour quickly because it is. Never put a pour spout set back from the edge. You end up with a mess unless you're very careful, and most people aren't careful before their first cup.Bottom line: Worth $9 and not much moreAlso if small appliances annoy you easily, keep looking. This one takes patience.

It is cheap but is it worth it? It is loud when making coffee. The coffee is not hot. Most importantly is that there is a strong chemical smell that doesn't go away. It is still there after 3 coffee cycles without coffee and now 2 cycles with coffee. There are so many toxic ingredients in plastic that I wouldn't be surprised if the chemicals I am smelling (still) are linked to health problems. Two weeks later and chemical smell still there. Coffee not hot, noisy and it drips when you pour. Also, I missed it before but the coffee pot I received is not the one pictured on Amazon. I like the permanent filter though.
December 13, 2014
It's okay, especially for the price. I wanted small and white, and that's what I got. No bells & whistles, just a little coffee maker. By the way, the picture of this coffee maker is inaccurate. It shows the on/off switch, on the front, which would be fine (actually better), but it's on the side of the maker.

And that is not the end of the story…

Features:

  • 4-Cup capacity. Makes coffee serving to your family of 2-4 quick and easy.
  • Innovative and stylish design. Very eye-catching and adds to interior décor.
  • Smart space saver. Features a compact design that will fit in the smallest apartment or office.
  • Pause N’ Serve option. You don’t have to wait till brewing is complete for you to drink your coffee.

I watched a video online about this machine before purchasing that was posted by an individual which helped me take a chance. I'm GLAD I did! This is an awesome little machine that works Perfect (especially if you watch one of the product review videos posted elsewhere first so you learn the nuiances). I wanted to wait a couple of months before posting my review to make sure there weren't any issues. You definitely want to get the 8 or 10 oz stainless steamer cup if you want to do Latte's or Mocha's (our favorites). So Far I've made over 50 beverages using this and LOVE every cup. I've actually become a fan of just plain espresso drinks (with the "S" company's "Expresso/Espresso?" Blend coffee beans, don't cheap out get the good stuff in a dark espresso bean). The steamer function works great (again after watching a "training Video") and no issues. Saves me a lot of time on the weekends driving to the "S" place to get my wifes skinny vanilla latte, and mine taste EXACTLY the same! Awesome and a great Value. Even if it craps out now, I'd by another one to replace.

I suspect this product is keeping Mr. Coffee in business. You cannot expect a product at this price to perform well, yet this machine has not let me down.I have made a latte daily in my own house since 1998; usually two or three. A day. I have no shame.I have owned a variety of expensive machines, including pump machines. The volume at which they operate is ridiculous. Next door neighbors should not be able to HEAR you simply making coffee! The Mr.Coffee model shocked me when I gave it a try about five years ago. I could not believe how well it worked and at such a quiet volume. It makes a lovely latte and perfect foam.I am certain the machine was never designed for the use ...er ...abuse I put it through. After my two to three a day habit, the machine gives out in about 6 months. That's okay by me! For the price, it does not bother me to replace it.Also, be mindful that the first five or so drinks in the new machine may have a slight metallic/plastic taste. This is normal with this (and other) machines. It will go away.
January 15, 2016
I bought this when my keurig died, mainly because my husband whines and gripes constantly when I mention buying a new keurig. I used to make Lattes and Cappuccinos when I worked at Eat-n-Park, so I sort of know how to use it. I am still getting used to the frothing wand. It could be a little farther out from the machine, but it works. Each time I make one, I am getting better at using the frothing wand. The coffee is amazing! I use Cafe Busalo espresso, and I love it! This is a great little machine! The only thing that is a pain is the cleanup--- but I want it to last, so I make sure to clean everything, everytime I use it. No problems.

Features:

Have a look at these amazing features. The world is a better place with great-tasting coffee

  • Features a frothing arm that produces creamy froth. This is a useful feature to those who love lattes and cappuccinos.
  • Removable drip tray. Collects all the coffee drips keeping your countertop neat.
  • Pour glass carafe. With just a slight tilt of the wrist, you will serve 4 cups of hot flavorful coffee.
  • Produces hot steam that optimizes extraction resulting to rich espresso.

When my old coffee maker(12 cup) broke I decided I'd rather get a smaller one to replace it. I came across this 3 in 1 breakfast station and it wasn't much more expensive than just a coffee maker so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm happy I did because it works great and saves space. I use the coffee maker daily and it works perfectly with no issues. However the carafe that came with it broke the first month I had it. While I was washing it in the sink it slipped out of my hands and broke. I have to say that this isn't the first time I've dropped a carafe inside the sink but this is the first one that ever broke after only falling 5 inches. I looked at several stores and online to find a replacement and none of the universal 4 cup pots would fit. I eventually had to call the company direct to get a replacement and it cost $11. The replacement they sent me is different from the original but it seems more sturdy than the previous one. The downside to the replacement is that it fits more snug, which causes the filter section to pop out more easily unless you hold it in place while sliding the pot into position. The toaster oven gets used a couple times a week. It works fine for small items like pretzels, pizza rolls, bagel bites, etc. It's a convenient alternative to using the regular oven for toasting small things. The griddle works fine but it does take a while to heat up. I fried an egg on it and grilled some peppers and onions just to test it out but I haven't needed to use it since. I recommend this product for people who don't need to cook/toast/drink alot all at once. Obviously this 3 in 1 is small so it isn't practical for family dinners. It's better for RVs, dorm rooms, hotel rooms, etc.

I bought this little "Easy Bake Oven" for a camping trip that we took. We took an Airstream trailer and I thought this had a cute retro look and I was decorating everything with this light blue or turquoise so it was a must have just for décor. Our trip was last week and we used this every day. Mostly we used it for the coffee maker - it was quick to brew and it was hot, so that's all we needed. Be aware that you need cone shaped filters. It has a reusable filter but I never like those and for camping I didn't feel like cleaning out grounds. I probably will never use the little griddle on the top - but did use the little oven to toast a bagel and that was perfect too. So if you're looking for something for your apartment, dorm room, or in our case, your camping trailer, this really is a useful and charming little appliance. I'm including a photo that shows it in our little kitchen / dining area of the trailer.

This is such a great little cooking appliance to add into your dorm room. I have used all three functions almost everyday ever since I got this. It makes a cup of coffee (you actually have to fill the water up to 2 cups) within a minute and cooks an egg in about 7 to 10 minutes. The oven works great too. I have tried cooking bagels and frozen waffles and they both turned out golden and crisp. I love it.

How We Tested

Let be sincere with one another because this is where it all begins and ends. What matters at the end of the day is a reliable coffee maker that will brew the best-tasting coffee and not one that pulls some terrible espresso shots.

Some machines claim to do so much yet they have the poorest water-to-bean ratio and don’t heat water the right way. To corner these scams, we decided to go through a very rigorous process and finally find out which model scoops the crown.

Actually, apart from carrying out various qualitative tests, we also considered the views of most coffee lovers. Most were comfortable with a unit that could strike a balance between great flavors, reasonable price (Not beyond $200), easy cleanup and less maintenance.

In addition to that, we consulted The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) so we could improve on our merit criteria. We were able to come up with other determining factors such as time, accuracy, volume, extraction capability, carafe, and overall machine performance.

Finally, we put everything together including the 10 coffeemaker models and began the analysis. We had the best roasters and tasters.

We used 10 batches of whole bean coffee, which was enough to make 1 liter for each coffee machine and brewed across all the models. Finally, we served the brewed coffee to the tasters so they could determine which coffeemaker is up to the mark.

In addition, we used the VST refractometer to determine the percentage of what coffee specialists refer to as the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). There were other qualitative tests too so as to determine the strength of coffee among other test variables. At the end of the entire process, we came up with the winner.

How to Choose the Best 4-Cup Coffee Making Machine

First of all, let me make it clear.

There is nothing known as the best coffee maker regardless of its capacity or brand. By that I mean, there is no single model that can be loved by all of us. What best suits your needs is what is best. Therefore, before spending any bucks, think of what you need and everything else will be a breeze.

The best starting point is by first understanding the major features of 4-cup coffee machines and how they vary. Below are a few things you may want to look into before making your final decision.

  • Easy cleaning

A coffee machine should not make your life a living hell when it is time to clean things up. This is why you should consider a coffeemaker with a removable filter and one whose parts can be easily detached.

  • Brew-Pause

This is a feature some coffee drinkers can’t do without. It allows you to taste coffee mid-brewing. The good news is that the brew-pause feature can enable you to determine the taste and blend of ingredients.

  • Permanent Filter

Some brands come with a permanent filter. This means you cannot use the paper filters. It all narrows down to personal preference, especially those that live paper filter flavors.

Coffee Maker Auto Shut Off

This is an important feature for those who try their best to cut down on electricity bills. Your coffee maker will automatically shut down 15 or 30 minutes after brewing is complete. It also helps maintain the machine.

Coffee Maker Programmable

Some coffeemakers are pretty smart to the extent of brewing you rich tasty coffee when you are dead asleep. You can set the machine to start brewing a few minutes to your waking up. Who doesn’t love to wake up to a hot delicious cup of joy?

All Types of 4-cup Coffee Makers

There are different types of 4-cup coffee machines and this is all determined by the mechanism used to create pressure.

Ready for the breakdown?

Well, we do have:

  • Pod-based coffeemakers –These are simply the historical basic stovetop espresso pot. Generally, it is a single serve because the pod the placed in one pressurized container.
  • Espresso machines – The truth of the matter is that few understand what espresso machines are despite the popularity of this term. Most coffeemakers that we, today, refer to as espresso are not fully utilizing the high-pressure system of the true espresso machines. Real espresso machines have high-pressure pumps and are known for their unmatched brewing efficiency.
  • Semi-automatic espresso machines – They have a small lever or a switch which is pushed or turned on to start or stop the extraction.
  • Super automatic machines – These ones are equipped with a microprocessor. This, therefore, means that they can be programmed. With a touch of a button, they will grind, tamp and brew rich tasty espresso.

How to Make Coffee with a Grinder At Home

For you to brew the best coffee doesn’t mean you must use the most sophisticated super automatic coffeemaker. There are a few things you may get wrong and everything else loses its meaning. There a few things you need to take care of in order to improve the quality of your coffee. It is not always about having a reliable machine.

Are you ready to learn?

Ensure your record is clean when it comes to the tips am just about to mention. If you do so, be sure your coffee will taste great.

  • Use fresh whole coffee beans

The fresher your beans are the better the coffee taste gets. It is, therefore, advisable to avoid buying pre-ground coffee unless you are damn sure they haven’t stayed for long. Check the nearest local coffee shop for fresh whole beans, preferably those sellers that roast their coffee is small batches.

  • Grind and brew immediately

Brewing coffee using whole beans that were perhaps ground a week ago is the greatest mistake you can make. Do not blame anyone when your coffee tastes watery and nasty. Studies show that coffee loses its flavor in as little as 30 minutes after being ground.

  • Grind your coffee beans to the right size

This narrows down to personal preference because some folks love it too strong, weak or medium. If you prefer a weak taste, grind your beans coarsely. If you want it strong, grind into fine coffee grinds and grind them to medium grinds if you want the coffee to taste in between strong and weak.

  • Store the coffee beans the right way

Store the beans in a dry cool place. You can use a vacuum sealed container or use a standard Mason jar. Additionally, it is a pretty good idea to downsize your storage container or bag as your brew coffee.

  • Avoid using your intuition or measuring coffee by volume

Don’t think you are too smart to use your own instincts. You can’t beat the digital weighing scale when it comes to accuracy. Use the scale to determine the required weight and not volume. Usually, one part of coffee to 20 parts of water is the recommended ratio when you want a fairly strong coffee.

Coffee Maker Red and Coffee Maker White – Style and Design

You have just landed at home and the next thing you want to try out is your new Mr. Coffee Programmable coffeemaker.

Unfortunately, it only takes less than two days for to realize something is not blending well with your kitchen décor. To be honest with one another, most of us do not even think of how the color or design of our appliances blends with our modern kitchens.

Nevertheless, the two can either blend seamlessly resulting to more interior décor or completely destroy the setting. Coffee machines come in stainless steel finish, red, blue, and more styles.

As you get busy looking for a coffeemaker that is loaded with robust features, do not forget to finally settle on the model that best suits your kitchen.

Let me share a few tips on choosing a coffee maker that blends seamlessly with your kitchen.

  • Buy a coffee maker that has a sleek and unobtrusive design if your kitchen is modern. Modern kitchens have no clutter and therefore require stylish yet ostentatious coffeemakers. S
  • If your kitchen style is contemporary, opt for a coffeemaker that is pure and simple.
  • Alternatively, you can seek advice from interior designers, especially those who have specialized in kitchen appliances. There are very many colors, finish and plethora kitchen styles. It is up to you to find what best suits your kitchen.

Warranty

Buying any type of coffee maker comes with a financial sacrifice. That means you should do everything possible to avoid tampering with your warranty term unless you don’t care. Generally, most companies will offer technical support, maintenance, repair or a replacement if you bought the good from a genuine dealer.

However, buying the good from authorized dealers is not enough. You should not tamper with the original factory code. Plus, always keep the original receipt.

Warranty terms vary across manufacturers. I highly insist that you carefully read and analyze the warranty terms before rushing to make your final decision. I also do not advise you to purchase extended warranty unless you are solid-sure the company has a good standing record.

Additionally, some companies only provide warranty for one year while others can cover the goods for up to two years. I guess it is reasonable to compare the warranty terms with the overall quality and price of the product. Expensive products ought to have longer warranty lengths.

Mr. Coffee DR5 4 Cup Coffeemaker has the water reservoir which isn’t removable so it’s a bit difficult to clean the machine.
